Matthew Sweigart, AOBTA® – Certified Instructor
Matthew Sweigart is the primary instructor and director of the HeartMind Bodywork Training. He teaches all levels of HeartMind Shiatsu Theory, Practice and Clinical Supervision. He began training in 1985, and founded Ohashiatsu® Chicago in 1988, where he taught and practiced with the Ohashi Institute curriculum for 18 years. In addition to Ohashiatsu®, Matthew has studied with many Qi masters and shaman over the years, including Li Junfeng, Roger Jahnke, Jeffrey Yuen, Paul Pitchford, Sun Bear, Alberto Villoldo and Brandt Secunde. Since moving to Northern California in 2000, he has developed the HeartMind Shiatsu curriculum, blending Ohashiatsu, Zen Shiatsu, Qigong, Classical Chinese Medicine and Shamanic Wisdom. Matthew is the author of Touching Ki, HeartMind Meridian Qigong, Elemental Meditations and the HeartMind Shiatsu Meridian Chart. He is the proud father of two awesome boys.
Dave is a graduate of Boulder College of Massage and owner of the Bodywork Bistro as well as co-directer of HeartMind Bodywork. Recently Dave completed over 60 hours of training in Thai Yoga Massage, and completed The 200-hour Core Power Yoga Teacher’s training program. Dave has been a practicing yogi since the age of 18, and has enjoyed a daily meditation practice for over 30 years. With extensive training in Qigong and personal cultivation methods with such teachers as Master Chunyi Lin, Master Li Jun Feng, Ken Cohen and Roger Jahnke, his background includes 25 years in the natural foods and health and wellness industry. (He used to be a Store Team Leader for Whole Foods Market in the Chicago area.) His further studies include Quantum Touch with Richard Gordon, and Matrix Energetics with Richard Bartlett. He teaches Shiatsu at the Healing Spirits Massage Training Program in Boulder as well as continuing education classes for HeartMind bodywork. He has trained and worked extensively with Matthew Sweigart in the Ohashiatsu, Zen Shiatsu and HeartMind method since 1990. Angela M. Carini, B.S., AOBTA CP
Angela M. Carini, B.S., AOBTA CP has over 10 years experience in the fields of dance, bodywork, and mind-body fitness. She is a graduate of Chicago’s oldest established Shiatsu center (Zen Shiatsu Chicago) and is recognized as a Certified Practitioner in Shiatsu by the AOBTA. Angela has taught Shiatsu at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, Chicago campus, and currently teaches core curriculum classes and workshops at Zen Shiatsu Chicago. In addition to being a Shiatsu practitioner and instructor Angela is an enthusiastic Pilates Instructor. She began her study of Pilates while pursuing a Bachelors in Dance at Northwestern University. Initially she used it to rehabilitate a dance injury but found it helpful in managing structural scoliosis. In 2006 she became certified to teach Pilates through the Physical Mind Institute in NY. Angela is the author of a beginning level Shiatsu video entitled The Art of Shiatsu. www.angelacarini.com
Jessica Van Antwerp, CMT
Jessica graduated from the Healing Spirits Massage Training Program in Boulder, CO in July of 2009. Her education didn’t stop there, however, as she has pursued additional trainings in Shiatsu, HeartMind Bodywork, and Craniosacral Therapy. She has also stepped into a teaching role in the classroom as a teacher’s assistant, under Dave Goetz, for the Shiatsu course at Healing Spirits. She recently completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training through CorePower Yoga and has started teaching weekly classes in Boulder, guiding students on journeys into deeper relationship with themselves. She offers whole body restructuring to her clients through a combination of bodywork, both integrative and Shiatsu, and yoga private lessons.
Becky Whitmer, CMT, RYT
Becky graduated from Healing Spirits Massage Training Program in 2006. Since that time she has been an avid practitioner and student of Shiatsu. A yoga instructor since 1999, Becky brings many yogic principles into her bodywork, teaching, and life in general. She has assisted both Dave and Matthew in a number of HeartMind trainings and workshops. She serves as registrar for the Boulder trainings.

HeartMind Bodywork is a private post-secondary vocational education training program owned and operated as a Limited Liability Company in legal operation in the state of California, by Matthew Sweigart, CI and David Goetz, CMT. Matthew is the Director of Education and Acting Registrar and Admissions Counselor. David is the Administrative Director. Questions and concerns regarding the program’s Admissions Policy, Operation, Faculty and Staff, etc., may be directed to either Matthew or David.
